Highlights of the Villarrica Traverse Full Adventure Tour

Villarrica Traverse Full Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Pucón
Upon arrival at Temuco airport, we will transfer our guests to Pucón by private transportation. After check-in at the hotel, we will have an introductory meeting and equipment check. Enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant in Pucón. Rest and relax for the night.
Day 2: Interpretative Trekking at El Cañi (First Option for Ascend to Rukapillán Volcano)
We will travel by transport to the El Cañi Reserve. The hike starts from the Coilaco sector, where we will find a stand of ancient Araucarias along the trail. We will reach the high lagoons and the Cañi viewpoint, with spectacular views of the local volcanoes. The descent will take us to the Cajón de Huife sector.
Distance: 18 km | Estimated time: 6-8 hours
Day 3: Pucón – Villarrica Traverse Trail
Trekking from the north slope of the Rukapillán Volcano to the Zanjón de Challupen sector. Araucarias, lava flows, and lahars await us. We will walk to the PEUCO VIEJO viewpoint with views of the great Villarrica Lake (Mallolafquen) to the northwest.
Distance: 14 km | 5-7 hours
Day 4: Villarrica Traverse Trail – Geometric Hot Springs
Trekking from the Zanjón de Challupen lagoons to the famous Geometric Hot Springs. We will pass by remnants of past eruptions, Araucarias, and views of Mocho Choshuenco and Puyehue volcanoes to the south. We will reach the hot springs to relax in a stunning setting filled with water and lush vegetation.
Distance: 18 km | 6-7 hours
Day 5: Villarrica Traverse Trail – Laguna Azul
The trek takes us through incredible Araucaria and lenga forests with beautiful views of the Quetrupillán Volcano to the southeast. We will also see smoke from the Rukapillán and the Lanín volcano massif to the southeast. This section is intense at first, but the trail leads us toward the Azul Lagoon in the southeast.
Distance: 17 km | 6-8 hours
Day 6: Villarrica Traverse Laguna Azul – Laguna Avutardas
The journey begins with lava flows and ancient debris fields from one of the calderas of the extinct Quetrupillán Volcano. Always heading southeast, we will encounter large crater figures that we will visit on the way to Laguna Avutardas. We will camp in our mountain tents.
Distance: 16 km | 4-6 hours
Day 7: Villarrica Traverse Laguna Avutardas – Puesco
The day begins with a descent to the Puesco sector. During the trek, we will pass through lenga and coihue forests, with views of Cerro Colmillo del Diablo and the Puesco River Canyon. Arriving at the International Road will mark the end of this amazing journey across the Rukapillán, Quetrupillán, and Lanín volcanoes. We will travel approximately 55 km to reach our hotel, where we can rest and enjoy a well-deserved local mountain dinner.
Distance: 10 km | 4-6 hours
Day 8: Rukapillán Volcano (Second Option for Ascent)
We will ascend one of South America's most active volcanoes. Early in the morning, we will equip ourselves and head to the base of the volcano. From there, we will follow a trail through rocks, volcanic debris, and snow/ice. We will use crampons, ice axes, and helmets to reach the summit of Rukapillán. The descent will follow the same route. Dinner will be at a local restaurant in Pucón.
Distance: 12 km | 8-10 hours
Day 9: Departure from Pucón to Temuco Airport
We will transfer from Pucón to Temuco Airport by private transport. This will be the perfect moment to say goodbye and once again admire the majestic active volcanoes of the La Araucanía region.
