Description of the Villarrica Traverse Express Tour
The Villarrica Traverse Express trail is a classic hiking circuit located on the slopes of the Villarrica, Quetrupillán, and Lanín volcanoes.
With diverse landscapes and breathtaking views of ancient Araucaria forests, the Villarrica Traverse, or Transvolcanic Trail, is considered one of the most beautiful trails in the region.
This nearly 75-kilometer route takes you through lagoons, rivers, high-altitude steppe, remnants of past eruptions, and stunning valleys full of wildlife.
The campsites are pre-assembled to ensure maximum safety at each stage of the journey.
General Program
Day 1: Meeting at the Agency and Initial Coordination in Pucón
Review of camping and technical gear for activities. Pack bags for different segments. Accommodation at the discretion of Pierre, which may be in a hotel, hostel, or cabins.
Day 2: Segment 1 Villarrica Traverse Ultra Light
From Puesco to Laguna Azul (25 kilometers). This segment crosses Laguna Avutardas, covering diverse landscapes. We will start early to reach Laguna Azul, setting up camp with TARP (temporary tent) in the forested area.
Day 3: Summit of Quetrupillán Volcano and Departure to Paraíso Escondido
20 kilometers through varied landscapes, including the summit of Quetrupillán Volcano. Upon arrival, we will set up camp in the “Paraíso Escondido” area, with a change of clothes, bath, and camp setup. Dinner to end the day and preparation for the next day.
Day 4: Mocho Mountain Range – Chinay
16 kilometers through mountain vegetation and Araucarias, with beautiful views of valleys and the Villarrica Volcano in front of us. Arrival at the Chinay camp, with a mountain dinner and preparation for the following day.
Day 5: Pichillankawe - Glacier Crossing - Geometric Hot Springs
20 kilometers of hiking through forests and volcanic moraines to reach the Pichillancawe Glacier. From here, we begin to descend towards the Geometric Hot Springs to relax and recover from the previous days. Dinner and accommodation in a tent or cabin.
Day 6: Valley of Fire – Pucón Ski Resort – Pucón
From the hot springs, we will cover 30 kilometers of lush vegetation, volcanic eruption remnants, and beautiful views. The terrain is semi-flat until we reach Pucón. Arrival in Pucón, with a meal at a restaurant according to the current COVID regulations.
This last segment is optional and can be done by car if the previous days have been too tiring.

Does not include:
- Sleeping bag. (Rental cost: 8,000 pesos or 12 USD per day)
What to bring:
- Light hiking clothing, sunglasses, sun hat, and warm hat.
